Apple crawled under the grabbing branches of frost-stripped brush, her tail still bristly with kitten-down kept carefully out of the thin layer of snow on the ground. She could hear the footsteps of her mother and siblings not too far away. She had wandered off, exploring the area, but had been careful to keep their sounds close. But mother hadn't spoken yet; everyone had been rattled by the sudden death of two of her siblings that morning.
They were now heading towards the 'Circuits,' to escape whatever had killed her siblings, though she didn't know what, and what a Circuit was Apple didn't know. But they were going to where these Circuits were, and as long as everyone else stayed safe Apple was okay with it.
Movement caught her eye, and apple crouched low to the snow, trying hard to get hr yellow-and-red-fur to blend in. Through the scraggly brush she could see a cat. He was small, pure yellow, and adorned with strange human things. Apple had seen cats with collars at a glance before, but never had she seen a stranger with cloth wrapped around his neck and some sort of ring cutting through his ear. That must hurt, having something lodged in your ear like that. Then all of a sudden, the cat's fur seemed to melt, and Apple's eyes grew large, not knowing what was happening. The cat's color dissolved around his limbs, tail and face, little flecks of gold powder falling into the snow and melting. The tom shook, dislodging the loose powder, showing purple, pink and black diamonds underneath, and a striking neon mask shape. Apple was startled by his appearance and scrambled backwards, wasting no time making a dash back to her mother and siblings.
"... are you here?"
Apple heard the mumbling of conversation as she came closer, and emerged from the brush to see her siblings, and her mother, who was being addressed by the very same yellow cat Apple had just run away from. Impossible! There was no way he could have made it here before she did! The little pale-colored kitten shuffled behind Umbre, her mother's, paws and peeked out at the strange tom. His eyes were narrowed at Umbre, and he looked untrusting. And untrustworthy.
"We're looking for the Circuits. Do you know where they are?"[/b]
Umbre seemed to share the same distrust with him. And instead of replying to her question, the stranger turned to observe the kits.
((Re-did this post, hopefully it's a tad more coherent, though the places where I started babbling are still apparent.))[/size]
