"Eaglepaw and her were so cute together."
His name stabbed Musicpaw in the heart like the claws of a foc. It had been months since she did anything but lay there depressed, letting the hole of heartache inside her eat away at her soul. It seemed like an endless, dull pain that suffocated her and squeezed her ribs together whenever she though of him.
Her breath suddenly stopped, she made only wheezing sounds as she curled up into a small ball and tears formed in the corners of her eyes. The attacks on her got worse every time, bringing her closer to the edge every time. Her chest actually ached, the numbness of depression gone for the moment as the acid of his name dripped on the raw wound of her heartache. She could hear his voice inside her head, echoing from her dead mind and calling to her. But he had left, and he didn't take Musicpaw with him.
Finally, she could breath again, but her heart still hurt. She stumbled blindly into the forest, narrowly avoiding trees and roots. Finally she stopped and lay down, unable to move on. She lay there for a long time, until the sun was nearly gone. She hadn't moved in hours, but she didn't care. She just wanted to die here, so she wouldn't have to think of Eaglepaw ever again.

HoneyStar, who had been hunting on her own to get away from clan duties for an hour or so paused in a hunting crouch on the forest floor, gold eyes scanning the bushes for the creature that had sniffed, alerting her to its presence. She hoped it was a rabbit. Those were so tasty! When she caught sight of MusicPaw, HoneyStar's eyes narrowed slightly with an unreadable expression and she straightened up, tail flicking. This apprentice was the one who... was depressed because one of her denmates had left the clan, maybe? The young leader tried for another moment to remember the exact details, but gave up with a soft sigh. "MusicPaw," HoneyStar tried to soften her voice to a soothing tone that would comfort the depressed apprentice. "Do you need someone to talk to?" HoneyStar had never been the comforting type; more often she had been the one in need of comforting... but this could end up being a nice change of routine.

Musicpaw looked up, expecting to see a fellow Apprentice, or perhaps a Queen. A warrior, at best, but certainly not Honeystar. A flicker of surprise crossed her eyes breifly, but in an instant, the fire was smothered with sadness. It seemed that it took her brain several minutes to process her words. No one had spoken to her in ages. She had kept silent and depressed for these several moons. That was her way of dealing with it, showing no emotion, no weakness. But suddenly, when she let down the wall blocking her brain from thought, everything spilled over and out through her heart, unable to be contained like that for any longer.
Suddenly, the pain in her chest was worse than it had ever been before. her eyes widened in shock and agony, tears finally flowing down her furry face. She was drowing, dying, inside her own mind. She couldn't breath, couldn't do anything but cry, bleed out the pain and suffer for these endless days.
"I- I- I though he l-loved m-m-me!" she choked out, gasping for breath. SHe curled up in a ball, rocking on the ground with strangled sound bubbling for her maw. "I thought w-w-we would al-always be t-t-t-t-together." she couldn't say anymore as red spots fogged her vsion and her lungs screamed for air.

HoneyStar herself seemed to wilf for a moment, her lamp-light eyes going wide as she remembered speaking almost the exact same words herself, as an apprentice. Do we have things in common!? The gray, white, orange, copper, and red patched she-cat rasped her tongue over the little cat's ears in an attempt to comfort her. "He'll come back some day. He'd never leave you for this long on purpose," She mewed softly into the apprentice's ears, knowing in her mind that toms were jerks sometimes and that MusicPaw's sweetheart may well have left her on purpose and have even found another she-cat to persue where ever he was now. But she didnt want MusicPaw to have a heart-attack, so she continued to murmur encouragingly into her ears until her breathing became more normal. HoneyStar settled beside her supportively, knowing that MusicPaw still probably had a lot to let out.

Musicpaw knew she shouldn't let herself go like this, but she couldn't help it. "H-h-he promised!" she persisted. "H-h-he al-always sa-said he'd l-love m-m-me!" she stood for a few seconds, but gasped with pain as the hole in her chest seemed to gow larger. Musicpaw's legs folded underneath her and she fell into the ground, her whole body shaking with tears of despair. She tried to breath again, only succeeding in making a rasping, sucking sound as air stopped in her throat. She felt her tears run dry, but her heart still felt like it was in pieces and she was still shaking with dry sobs that racked her body. Musicpaw finally lay still, staring at nothing with a more despairing look than ever before. Her eyes were dead and dull, as was the air around her. She let in a rattly breath, like an old dying cat. That's exactly what she felt like. "H-he told me we'd be Warriors together. Now I'll n-never be a W-warrior." the thought made her even sadder, but she had nothing left inside her, just an empty, aching cavern that went on forever. "He promised." she muttered again, her eyes closing for a long moment and then opening again.

"You will be a warrior, MusicPaw. Hopefully EaglePaw will have found his way back by then and you can become warriors together. Would it make you feel better if the patrols had orders to search for signs of EaglePaw when they went out?" Poor love-struck apprentice. Toms were such jerks, especailly young ones. If HoneyStar ever met this EaglePaw, she'd drag him back to camp and bind him up in thistles and chain him to the ground on elder-duty for life.
