The tom had been through this before, twice to be exact. He had thought that he would never have to go through this when he had found Darkwing, Rubysnow having been killed by a fox. But now, as he looked at the empty den where his mate had once rested, a feeling of bitterness seemed to flow through the tom. He had sired three kits, and now, two were gone. Of course, he had the strange Ballad of the loners, but she had been an accident long ago, and never really came by anymore. Sure, aside from the touch of sadness that was always in his once bright sapphire eyes, the others thought he was going to be alright, but that was because they just didn't know how it felt. To loose everyone you cared for, not for the first time, but for the second. He was cursed it seemed, to live alone for the rest of his life, without a companion other then the hot headed Eclipsingpaw, who usually never wanted to be around her father too often anyway. With his black, silver, grey and white pelt, Darksun was still young, but the pain of loss had made him age on the inside.
Pulling himself up from his nest and shaking the moss from his pelt, the only thing he could do was try and make it through the day. Casting a quick glance at the fresh kill pile, Darksun decided to hunt, although he was hungry. Padding into the forest, it seemed as though there was none other awake at this time. Even the apprentices seemed to be asleep. Ever since the loosing of Darkwing, his habits had become strange, and although Hacklepaw didn't see anything different in his mentor, the other warriors had noticed it. And, for the most part, left him alone.
Of course, it was amazing how fast things could change...

The she-cat hadn't slept in a while, but she was used to it now.Since Oricipaw's betrayal, Trueforge's sleeping patterns had been erratic, to say the least. Of course, this often benefitted the Clan as when not tossing and turning fitfully in her nest, the purplish she-cat was usually hunting.
Her crisis of faith meant that she hadn't yet been trusted again with an apprentice, or so it seemed to her. Honestly, she didn't care; if she'd done such a bad job with Oricipaw, why should she get another young cat to taint? She snorted, head down and mouth full of rabbit, not paying any attention to where she was going, until...
Whumph
She ploughed straight into Darksun, falling back on her haunches with the forceand dropping the rabbit. "Oh, I do apologize, sir. Surely 'twas my fault; I was lost in my thoughts."
((Oh thought I'd point out, she's Faker's sister x] And ignore the terribleness. I'm on a rubbish keyboard and I have to go do chores... >.> ))

There was a single problem with assuming he had been alone. As Darksun had went along in his thoughts, hoping that he would escape them when he finally got out of camp, he found that he wasn't as alone as he once thought himself to be. The sleek tom hadn't been paying enough attention, but caught a scent of rabbit. Trying to turn as his blue eyes glanced up to see Trueforge, it was too late, and the two collided. The tom managed to stay standing, but the fact that he hadn't been paying attention was a shock to him. He usually was good at paying attention to what was going on around him. Shaking his pelt slightly from the dust, the warrior looked down in an apologetic way at Trueforge.
"No, no. The fault is all my own. I was to consumed in the oblivion of my mind to pay close attention. My apologies, Trueforge."
Trueforge.. She was the one who had the traiter Orcipaw for an apprentice. It had cast a shaow onto the other cat, something Darksun couldn't fully follow. Why was it the mentor's fault if the apprentice went down the wrong road? Being the mentor of two apprentices now, Darksun had managed to ponder so many questions about the apprentices that had gone wrong. In the end, he had decided that it wasn't the fault of the mentor. Everyone made their own choices, one couldn't stop an apprentice from doing what they chose if they set their mind on it.
If anything, Darksun may have been the only cat that had really thought things like that through. What else did he really have to do anyway? Eclipsingpaw was too upset and angry to talk to him, no matter how hard he tried. Maybe he should try to start making friends again...
