A cat, medium haired, curly tailed, with the faux appearance of an alaskan malamute, pressed her face aganist the mountain breeze, crisp and bitter, left over from the Winter and further chilled from the snow eternily covering the peaks of the very mountains she admired.
The winds died down, and she opened her eyes, ears pricked as her paws kneaded the cold black tar shingles on the roof she sat on, waiting for the next breeze. Keep your summer, keep your oceans, the mountains and the winter was always the best parts of the earth and year.
North, it suited.
North was never a true kittypet, anyway. She was an outdoors cat, belonging to thee surrounding housefolk in five different houses, with the job of keeping all of their gardens rodent-free.
"Hey there, caught up with something?"
North looked over her shoulder at a very small english bob-tailed tortiseshell crouching behind her on the roof. Lynix, the cat from across the street, of course just about everyone knew the house cat that hung out with the most street-savvy alleycat around.
"O-oh, nothing." North meowed nervously, turning around to lick her paw.
"I see you here every morning." Lynix blinked her sage-green eyes quizically.
"I..." North began quietly, not really knowing what other house cats would think about a forest-infatuated kitty.
"You can go, ya know." Lynix mewed heerfully, tilting her head and smiling.
"Go?" North blinked uncertainly.
"Yeah, the forest. Nothin' wrong with it. One of my friends recently ran off because she was bored with the dreary life, and Lily just got back from taking an alley cat to see the Clans."
"Clans..."
"The wild cats in the woods. They're nice."
"Really?" North brightened. There must be some in the mountains, right? "Where?"
"I'm not sure. Look, that patch of forest, where the barn land meets the valley, over there? There are lone cats over there that live by themselves, but aren't enemies to the Clans. See if one of them will take you."
North chirped and jumped up, waving her curly tail happily. "Thanks, Lynix!"
Lynix nodded and got up herself, padding a few steps away, before looking back over. "Keep a lookout for the cat that belongs to the Market family, she went missin', kay?" She asked, winked lsightly, and disappeared in a scrablle over the edge of the roof.
North paused while her friend went, then turned and jumped off of the roof herself, skirting into the woods.
"Hey, I know you." North perked her ears, looking over her shoulder once again while passing a horse's fence, a brown cat cannonballing over to her, panting.
"Hey, hey, you're the block cat, from across the street." She gasped, shaking her whiskers. "I'm West, from the Market family. What are you doing out here."
"I'm North, I'm heading towards the mountains." The malamute-cat twitched her ears.
"Oooh. What a co-inc-a-dink." West grinned. 'I'm going too, let's go together."
North smiled sheepishly and nodded.
