There she sat, content with her new mate, Snapdragon. Who was awaiting her kits birth. He turned and looked at her. "Everything all right, my dear Fallon?" Snapdragon asked with a content tone in his voice. "Yes, everything is, my love." Fallon replied with a light and happy purr. Snapdragon grinned then looked away. Fallon smiled. This couldn't be anymore perfect. She thought. Now all there's left is the birth of wonderful kits. Fallon purred gently.
Her mother Mosswater padded into their cave. "I came with the herbs as soon as I could after Snapdragon told me. I hope you don't mind that I brought Darkveil to help." Mosswater nodded towads Darkveil who was entering the cave.
Darkveil was obviously graying by the look of her face. "Mosswater made me come in case something goes wrong." She meowed and smiled at the same time.
"Mother, you know that nothing will go wrong." Fallon purred with amusement. "Ow!"
Mosswater's eyes widened. "Oh dear. Snapdragon out of the cave! Darkveil get the herbs and some moss with water!"
Snapdragon quickly climbed out of the cave, sat outside waiting for Mosswater's signal for him to come in.
Darkveil leaned in and put an ear to Fallon's belly. "Five." She confirmed.
Pain shot throughout Fallon's body. The first was finally born. "Looks like you. It's a girl." She heard Mosswater faintly comment. "Ani." Fallon declared.
Another searing pain. "It's a boy, reddish-brown. With three legs." Mosswater licked her daughters face. "Nimrod. And i'll teach him to walk on his three legs."
Fallon licked her leg but stopped abuptly as pain shot through her. "Another boy. Dark brown with some faint darker stripes." Mosswater squeezed Fallon's paw. "Cellar." Fallon declared. Mosswater looked suprised. "Okay?" Mosswater teased. "Mom!" Fallon meowed.
A minute had passed before another pain had shot through her. Darkveil lifted a kit to Fallon's belly. "Looks like you, stubborn like you, and annoying like you." Fallon rolled her eyes. "Fallen." Mosswater grinned as she heard the name.
The last bit of pain. It was getting to be too much. Last one, reddish-brown. "Lillian Rose." Fallon said fanitly.
"Mosswater! She won't stop bleeding!" Darkveil yowled.
"No!" Mosswater dropped the moss she was soaking. "Hang in there Fallon! C'mon dear don't die!"
Snapdragon darted into the cave. "Fallon! Fallon, no."
Fallon's belly rose for the last time. "Too late." She breathed out before the blackness came to her.
"NO! FALLON WAKE UP! PLEASE!" Snapdragon yowled. Tears welled from Mosswater's eyes. "My dear sweet one. You almost were done with it. You were almost there." Mosswater cried.
Darkveil hung back and recited what she had heard from Anikan. "You will witness a mother's death and the birth of her five kits." She whispered.
Mosswater looked up. "The five have come."
Snapdragon was too busy crying to hear what anyone said. He gently lifted Fallon's body while Mosswater took her place. Snapdrgon hauled Fallon's body out of the cave and buried her next to Roserade. "I will miss you, my love." He looked at the stars. "It wasn't supposed to end this way m'dear. I will miss you." He dipped his head to the grave and etched on the canyon wall, 'Here lies Fallon, my one true love. I will never forget how she opened my eyes.' He dipped his head to the grave, and lay next to it. Tonight he would sleep by Fallon, tommorow, he would begin his fatherly duties.
