It was Vitalsilver's turn to be on guard tonight. He kept a lookout from the top of a small boulder perched in front of the waterfall entrance. Despite his rigid on-guard stance, his mind wasn't entirely focussed on the task, and it drifted. It made him think to himself,
"Bah, it's cold out here. Why do I even have to do this? There's been no activity since Renegade attacked. It'd be better if we could at least gaurd inside camp. But no, we're supposed to come out here every night. To get cold and wet."
He shifted slightly on his stone, avoiding the flecks of water splashing up from the pool.
"And I'm getting tired. 'Bet it's perfectly warm in the warriors' nest. Lucky furballs. I hope Smokesmog saved me my favorite spot in the den. That'd be great. Unless a Rogue kills me, or something."
As soon as he heard himself think that he tensed and made a grimmace.
"Okay, Vital, no morbid thoughts like that. Think about the task at paw. You're the best lookout in the Clan. You can spot hawks a mountain away! There's no way Rogues are gettin' to you. O-or maybe a Circuit. Unless they came from behind, or dropped down the mountain, or snuck up from the brambles, or..."
Now his eyes darted back and forth, his claws trying to dig into the rock underfoot to steady his shaking. Vitalsilver didn't have the most stable constitution, and he felt his eyes burn with fear as his paranoia soared. Crouching down he wrapped his tail around his feet and quietly sobbed,
"*Hic* I hate this job. I wanna go back. I wanna go home, I hate this job. I wanna go back to the den with Smokesmog. I wanna go back, I wanna go back..."

"EEEEK!"
Without watching where he went, Vitalsilver flung himself off of his perch, towards the voice, a howling ball of fur and outstretched claws. His paws connected with something, sending he and his 'attacker' rolling in a spray of dust.
"VITALSILVER! You had BETTER retract your CLAWS from my FLANK this instant!"
Vitalsilver's eyes were squeezed tightly shut when he went hurdling, and now he slowly opened one to see that his claws were firmly in the side of the senior warrior, Poisondaze, who was glowering at Vitalsilver with unamusement etched on his face.
Whoops.
The younger warrior quickly scrambled away, tail fluffed in shock of both being startled and of attacking a high-ranking officer.
Poisondaze leapt to his paws and narrowed his eyes at Vitalsilver, growling softly,
"As soon as you explain why you just screamed and attacked me, you had better be one very fast little kitten because if I catch up StarClan help you."
"I-I-it... I thought, you... Sneak... R-rogue..."
Vitalsilver muttered stupidly, quite dazed yet. And then he almost leapt straight out of his whiskers as another voice crept up on him without warning.
"You'll be happy to know that you made my ears pop with that shreiking you all did."
An all-too-familiar yellow form hopped up the pathway to the waterfall and the two who just dripped with joy at the moment.
"I can see you two look busy at the moment..."
Cloapr chided, glanced back and forth between the glaring Poisondaze and the fluffed Vitalsilver. This time no bells followed his movements, his collar haven been traded with a blue bandanna, which normally only happened when the weather was cold. Must almost be LeafFall.
"But I'm looking for an audience with Talonstar. Reckon you could locate him for me, unless of course that shrill voice of yours hasn't already woken him up?"
