Midnightkit sat happily at the entrance of the nursery. She was hoping to see Shadowpaw again. She had met the gray tom the day before, and had quickly become friends with him. Though, they had not had that good of a experience when they decided to climb a tree.
Midnightkit had decided to suggest to race to the top of a nearby tree. Once they had gotten closer to the top of the tree, the branches had begun to creak. Shadowpaw had leaped from one branch to the other, and the branch underneath him broke. He had been able to get to the branch above him luckily. He had ordered her to climb back down the tree, and she obeyed obediently. Once she had reached the bottom, he had begun his decent down. He missed the first branch, and fell down, and landed hard on the next branch. He had been able to climb down the rest of the tree, and had insisted that he was fine.
As Midnightkit waited, she remembered something that Shadowpaw had mentioned the day before. He had been a rouge as a kit. After mentioning that, he had, had to leave to go on patrol, so Midnightkit had not been able to ask him about it. Who had brought him to the clan? Had he lived by himself, or had he lived with another cat. And if he had lived alone, hadn't it been scary? She thought to herself. How did he learn to hunt if he had lived on his own? She decided to ask him all of these questions once she saw him, of course, if it wasn't to much of a difficult subject. Maybe something really bad had happened before he came to the clan, and was difficult for him to talk about. She would make sure to ask him if it was OK to talk about it, before she asked any of her questions.
She waited a few more minutes, and still didn't see him. She climbed up the same tree, and got in the same branch that she had first seen Shadowpaw in. The wind began to blow softly, and ruffled her black and white fur, but she didn't mind. She liked the wind, and smiled as it began to blow. She pured for a second, before she began to sing, her beautiful voice carrying on the wind. She loved to sing, but was very shy, so she usually didn't sing in front of other cats. She hoped no one could hear her, but knew she was to close to the ground for any chance of that. She posed, and looked around. She didn't see any cats. She purred again, and then continued her song.

For the most part; everything had gone fine. Although the apprentice had managed to get himself inbetween a rock and a hard spot; things had worked out in the end. Nevermind the bruise that he could feel though, from where he had landed on the rouch surface of the tree. Shaking his head, Shadowpaw wondered exactly at how foolish he had been that day; maybe it had been just the general buzz of doing nothing that had caused him to be so reckless. It hadn't taken much thought for one to just see that the branches were dangerous, and here he was, leaping to and fro as though he was as light as a feather. It was disgusting, and to know that he had put not only his own life at danger, but another cat, an innocent cat's life at that, in danger as well, it just added an extra sting to his still healing wounds. It had been a good thing that he had fallen though; it had knocked some sense into him, and just as the patrol had come along as well. That had been a relief; had anything else happened the grey tom really wasn't sure what he would have done.
Blinking the sleep out of his light grey eyes, Shadowpaw rose from the apprentice's den with muffled yawn and stretch, blinking against the bright light of morning. He wasn't needed on the daen patrol; a fact that had made him very, very glad. After all, with yesterday's adventure, he had needed all the sleep he had gotten. Lazily making his way out of the den, shaking bits of moss that had clung there away effortlessly, the apprentice's gaze turned toward the tree he had fallen out of, before offering a shrug. He was going to eat before going out today; hunger knawed at him like a wounded fox. Selecting one of the fresher bits, Shadowpaw was quick to eat his fill, and stretch once more in the sunlight. It was a good day it seemed, aside from the hacking coughs from the medicine cat den. Every day it got worse and worse, as more and more cats fell under the sickness, and there were more deaths in the clans. Was there ever going to be hope for them? As far as he knew, the clans had accepted Clopar's offer; it was just if the strange pelted tom would ever tell them the cure.
And then, the strangest possible thing happened. The tree began to sing. The voice was fainter as it drifted in the wind, but still obvious to the pricked ears of the apprentice. It wasn't the tree, a voice told him, but rather, someone in the tree. Someone who should know better then to be in the tree, after all the excitment yesterday. A slightly humorous expression playing out on the tom's features, Shadowpaw rose from where he had been crouched, and wandered over to the tree.
"And here I was, thinking you'd stay out of trees for a while." He called up, grey eyes filled with good spirits, but also a bit of stern-ness. After all; she was starting to get rather close to the woods, and he wouldn't want to get her in trouble because she escaped, and he had to go and find her.
((Hehe. I love writing larger posts too.))

Midnightkit stopped singing, and grinned down at the tom. "Nope." She said cheerfully. "I love climbing to much." She said, still smiling. She carefully climbed down the tree, and padded over to the gray tom. She stopped about a fox length away from him, and sat down. "I was hoping I would get to see you again today." She meowed. "How are you feeling?" She asked him in concern. She tilted her head slightly, and looked at him, concern also in her eyes. She hoped he wasn't to sore after yesterday's fall.

The grey tom snorted, rolling his eyes in good humor. He was always in a good mood it seemed; although he tended to be more relaxed around cats younger then him. Which was why he so easily made friends with the young Midnightkit, versus the many other apprentice's in the den. Not that a lot of them were really open. Dragonpaw was always out, Shadowedpaw was pure evil, and Frostpaw was bitter and cold. Not really anyone that the gentle grey tom would really care to hang around; after all, he did have something that resembled standards when it came to talking with others. He for one, didn't want his throat ripped out for saying the wrong thing, or perhaps, getting meanings mixed up. And then there were some that someone really wasn't sure of. Of course, there were other apprentices around the clan, but really, nobody whom Shadowpaw knew by name. Everyone was always so busy doing something; it was why he loved his duck hunting mentor. It was fearful though, for his mentor was older then most cats, and if he happened to die before Shadowpaw finished his training... Well, let us just say the tom would be more then torn up about it.
It was time to cast away the thoughts of gloom and predictions though; a question had been asked from the black and white kit up in the tree, who had just climbed down. Flashing her a slight grin, Shadowpaw nodded. "I suppose that one day you'll eventually be a good tree climber; hunting from the tops instead of the bottoms." Giving Midnightkit a quick wink, the apprentice watched her, slightly amused with everything. The morning was still fresh; the camp buzzing with activity, but he had the day off again. Zebrastripe was going to teach him something intense tomorrow, it was important to be good and rested. Which meant no more falling out of trees due to his own ignorance. Well, I guess he should avoid falling out of trees in general, seeing how every time it hurt as though it had been the first, even if he managed to land it correctly. But one could never forsee the future, unless of course, one happened to be a Circuit cat. Last time the grey apprentice had checked, there were no real circuits in DuskClan, and if there were any, they hid it well.
Blinking slightly at the cat in front of him, Shadowpaw looked at her, pondering her statement, before giving himself a mental shrug. "A touch sore where I landed, but nothing that I experianced before. Don't get me wrong, Zebrastripe is an amazing mentor, but he sure can be tough." Yawning slightly, Shadowpaw turned his grey, stormy gaze back to Midnightkit. "How are you feeling this fine morning?"
Greenleaf was almost here; the grey apprentice could feel it. The warmth of green leaf was annoying at times, but it was also a good break from leaf bare. So, the heat would be tolerable until he got sick of it, and then he would long for the cold. And then, for the heat again. It was a very confusing thing, something that only made sense in the mind. "Green leaf soon." He murmered, with a swift wink.
((I can post the way I post because of not only practice, but because when I was still a newer RPer, I challeneged myself by joining a RP site that only allowed me to post at least 200 words. Not counting the things a counter counts ((such as the or when you post, or when you change and end the size. It really does help, for me, anyway.))

((0.0 My goal right now is 50 words. Maybe I should change it to like 100 words. I don't think I could post 200 words every time!))
Midnightkit grinned at the tom's first remark. She could clearly see herself skillfully balancing on the top branch of a tree, carefully sneaking up on a bird. Then pouncing at precisely the right moment, and killing the bird with one swipe.
"I'm feeling fine." She replied to his question. "Of course I'm not the one who fell." She said, giving him a wink. She had said it playfully, not meaning that she was better than him, because she hadn't fallen.
Midnightkit tilted her head at his last observation, and a puzzled look came across her face. "Green Leaf? What's that?" She asked. Though she was nearly apprentice age, she still didn't know many of the terms that some of the older cats used.
((129 words! YAY! I met my new goal, and I didn't even really have to try! Maybe I will make my goal 200 words. Oh, and I don't include or and the other stuff like that. =) ))

Snorting slightly, rolling his eyes, Shadowpaw poked the young kit with his paw. "Yeah yeah. But at least I learned a new skill; how to fall out of a tree without hurting yourself too horribly, even though you missed the first branch. You can't beat that now." Oh yes, he had learned that skill; but could only hope it wasn't one that he would have to repeat any time soon, or that if he did, it would be in an act of bravery, so that he wouldn't feel like such a, well he really didn't know, when he landed hard. Well, he would have been happy if it hadn't even been his own ignorance that had led to his fall, but beggars couldn't be choosers, he had to just be happy with the fact that he hadn't hurt himself even more then just a few bruised spots where he had landed. He just needed to accept the fact he had made a fool out of himself, but at least he hadn't died, and that Midnightkit hadn't been hurt in the proccess of the little, adventure, you could say. If you wanted to call it that.
"You don't know what Green leaf is?" Amazment was clear in Shadowpaw's eyes, as though it was one of the most basic things everyone knew. Suddenly, the grey tom let out a soft chuckle. "Green leaf is when the prey runs great, there is always fresh kill, and the leaves in the trees are always green and blooming with flowers on them and everything. Itas amazing really." Ah yes, Green leaf, the time that humans call summer. It was always nice to have the prey running so well, ready to be caught without too much effort. Usually the time apprentices were made into warriors and kits into apprentices, when the time was much easier to learn, and thrive in.
((Awesome. ))

Midnightkit smiled, and laughed when Shadowpaw poked her. She poked him back. "That sounds like a really nice time." Midnightkit commented. She posed for a moment, as she wondered what a flower was, for she was still a kit, and had not experienced all of the seasons yet. That meant, that she didn't know what flowers looked like, or what the tree's looked like with green leaves on them. "I just wish I know what they all looked like." She said softly, just above a whisper. Just loud enough for the other cat to here. She had not said it out of sadness. She had just been deep in thought, imagining what it all would look like.
She looked to the green grass, that fluttered ever so slightly in the wind. She looked at it's deep green color. Maybe the tree's leaves would look like grass. They where apparently both green. Maybe they where exactly the same, only, leaves grew in trees. Would the leaves grow on the branches, or on the trunk of the tree. Would it even look like grass at all, or would it look like something else entirely? Then she again wondered what a flower was, and what it looked like. This tom knew so much more than she did. She would have asked him all of these questions, but she didn't want to seem like an ignorant kit.

The apprentice offered a soft shrug; at first everything was wonderful, but over time, as the seasons passed, one grew used to the changes that the moons offered. Of course, he had seen the seasons change at an early age, so maybe that was part of it. After all, for all the clan kits, there was always an air of wonder to the changes, seeing as they weren't suppose to go out of camp and explore the outside. Everything was a thing of wonder when they first ventured outside as apprentices, leaving the older and newer warriors to just chuckle at their excitment. Tilting his head slightly at Midnightkit's question, Shadowpaw's eyes seemed to lighten slightly as he winked at the young cat. "I'll be right back. You may not be able to go outside, but I can." Getting up, Shadowpaw strolled outside, searching for something. Midnightkit already knew what the basics looked like, as well as a few herbs probably, but nothing like the blue flower that Shadowpaw was looking for. Grey eyes still searching, but moving faster then his stroll, Shadowpaw finally found what he was looking for. With a quick nip, he grabbed the flower, and strolled back to camp.
"And this, is a flower." Smiling slightly, Shadowpaw dropped the floiwer, shaking some of the moss out of his pelt that had gathered when he had decided to grab the flower. His soft dark grey pelt seemed to gleam slightly in the sunlight, close examination revealed that it was because of the dew on it. "There was a question on your face; was there something you wanted to ask me, earlier on?" Never one to miss anything, Shadowpaw had caught the early glances of Midnightkit, the wondering glances that he hadn't quite managed to figure out yet.

Midnightkit had waited patiently while Shadowpaw had been gone.
She gasped when he had dropped the flower at her feet, her eye's widened. "It's beautiful!" She breathed. She stood up, and gracefully leaned over to observe the beautiful blue flower. Though her movements had been graceful, she hadn't even noticed. She sniffed the flower, and smiled. She looked up at Shadowpaw, her green eye's dancing with amazement, and happiness. "Thank you!" She said. She grinned wider. "It's beautiful!" She gently lifted up one of the petals. It was so soft, and light. She continued to smile softly. She rolled it onto the other side to look at the other side, so she could look at it on both sides. It looked the same. She tilted the peddles ever so slightly to wards her. She bent down again to sniff the flower. This time she stuck her nose inside the peddles. She breathed in. pollen went up her nose. She sneezed, then began to laugh.
At his last question, Midnightkit looked at him, and replied. "Yes! I wanted to know what a flower was, and what it looked like!" She was in such a happy mood, now that she knew what a flower was, that she didn't care if he thought she was and idiot. But, she knew that Shadowpaw wouldn't have thought that in the first place. She leaned forward, and licked him playfully on the ear. "Thank you. It's beautiful. I've never seen anything like it!" She mewed softly, while she smiled at the older tom. Though she was still a kit, when she sat up, and smiled, she appeared much older, and mature.
There was so much that this older tom knew. Much more than Midnightkit. She wished she knew as much as he did. What leaves where, how to hunt, what the clan did, outside of the nursery walls, and things like that. She wanted to learn it all.

The grey tom just gave a modest shrug. He really wasn't to impressed with the flower; he had seen a lot like it before, but at least he had made Midnightkit happy. Not that it was hard to make kits happy, they were easily pleased. Their happiness was something almost pure though, as if it could wrap away all of the darkness that life threw at one. Maybe it could, you never knew exactly what magic was, or how it acted. So maybe their laughter was healing, who was to say it wasn't? "Welcome. I figured since you couldn't go out there, I might as well bring some of whats out there, to you." Offering a slight smile, the young tom just shrugged once more. He wasn't very good about the whole thank yous and whatnot, he just did what he thought he was suppose to do. There had never been another motive behind his actions. It was still good to see her happy, even though, like any normal kit, she seemed to be easily amused by the gentle older cat. He just had the effect on those younger then him. Gentle and wise, what else was better?
Chuckling softly as the flood of questions came from the kit, Shadowpaw shook his head. "There is no way anyone will be able to see everything. From the Rogue Canyons to the Loners Meadow, even throughout the clan lands, there are things that nobody will ever see." Winking slightly at the she cat, Shadowpaw rose. He had things to do today, and if there weren't any other pressing matters with Midnightkit, then he would be on his way. The life of the apprentice was dull at times, but at other moments, there was nothing else he could do but hope that there wasn't something his mentor would get mad at him for. "Any other pressing questions, Midnightkit? I should get moving before Zebrastripe starts to get mad at me for being late." Grinning ever so faintly, the grey apprentice turned his head slightly, an amused look flickering through his light colored gaze.

Midnightkit marveled at how wise this apprentice seemed. He always said something that seemed like it was beyond his moons. Of course that's what Midnightkit thought. She hadn't even talked to anyone older than her, besides her mother, and now Shadowpaw.
"Oh! No, no. That'll be all." the kit gave a happy laugh, and grinned. "I don't want to get you in trouble!" She said, ushering him out the entrance of the nursery. She laughed again. She was so happy. She loved her flower, and it had, as some would say, 'Made her day'. "Thank you again for the flower. I love it!" She sat down at the entrance of the nursery. "Will I be able to see you again tomorrow?" She asked, then remembered that he was an apprentice. "That is, if your not to busy." She added quickly. She gave another small smile at the tom.
((Xp Bleh! Only 152 words that time. I wanted to add something to the top, but I couldn't think of what to put. Oh, and since we're coming to the end of the thread, will you start the next one? Grinning slightly at the she cat, Shadowpaw thought over her final question, all the while answering her other statements. "Your welcome. Glad that you enjoyed it." Maybe he would bring her other outside wonders from the clan's territory. It was well enough to see her expression as it lit up with wonder. Light grey eyes suddenly thoughtful as her question swam around his mind, Shadowpaw wondered exactly what he would be doing tomorrow, you could never really tell what was going to happen. Life was stable enough, but often happened to be boring at times. Maybe it was good though, that he was staying around with Midnightkit; it helped keep his mind focused.
"Maybe. It all depends upon how busy I am. Although, I bet I'll be able to." Grin more obvious now, Shadowpaw dipped his head to the kit, before turning and dashing away, he had to go on a hunting trip, the clan's prey was starting to run low.
((Thanks. Breeze made it.
Umm. Either way. I'm rather low on muse right now, though.))

Midnightkit nodded, to Shadowpaw's last statement. Once the apprentice had left, she returned to her flower. She picked it up in her mouth, and headed over to the tree she had been in earlier. She lay down at the base of it, and lay her flower down next to her. She marveled at it for a moment, then looked up at the tree. She couldn't wait to see what leaves looked like. She sighed, then lowered her head back down. She lay her head down on her paws, still facing the flower, and fell asleep.
((Bleh! low muse... Can you start the new thread, or should I?))
