There was a rustling of bushes, or leaves, and suddenly an apprentice sized shape fell out of the trees. A expression of annoyance was on his face. Leaping up, Sand glanced around quickly, drawing in the scent. Yes, this was the clan he had been looking for. How had he managed to fall strait into the middle though? .Where was everyone else? They all said they would meet him here when they had split. He had caught no scents of them here though. There were no scents he knew here, only the undertone that told him where he was. Sighing to himself, Sand started to move through the forest, making noise in hope somone else would find him. He really didn't like being alone for the journy's length. It had made him depressed in a way.

Rainbowpaw trotted up to Sand. "Who are you?" she said quietly, glancing around uneasily.

Blinking, Sand smiled in what he hoped was a 'I'm no threat to you' way. Looking around, he sighed. Being mute could be rather hard sometimes. Making sure he had this strange cat's gaze, he first touched his tail to himself. Then, he tounched his tail to his maw, shaking his head sadly. He hoped she would understand. He repeated the gesture once more, before walking over to the small pile of sand a little ways a way. It was a lucky break. Cataching her gaze again, Sand touched his tail tip to the sand, and then to himself.

Rainbowpaw cocked her head. Finally she understood. "Sand?" she asked. Then she looked down, ashamed. "You can't talk, can you?" she said quietly.

At first, as she gussed his name, Sand nodded in a very enuthisastic way, eyes lit up seeing as she had understood. His spotted sand colored pelt was smooth as he grinned slightly at the other cat, whos name he still did not know he realized. His spirits dimmed as he took in her tone of voice about her next statement, and his nod was slower, in a way that was sad. His eyes lost what fire they had held, and he looked down at the ground, scuffing it slightly. Sighing, he looked back up, and touched the tip of his tail to Rainbowpaw in a questioning way. His eyes held the same flicker of curiousity that he had when he was exploring the territory. He cocked his head to the side. Although he couldn't talk, there was no doubting the intelligence behind his deep amber eyes as he watched the strange cat in front of him, a flicker of hope that he didn't want to feel in his gaze. He could have bet she would be just like nearly everyone else, treating him as if he was a child because he couldn't talk. Or making fun of him. Still though, there was that chance she would not, and a single spark of hope flared in his deep eyes.

There was a russel in the brush, and a large tom stepped out. His brown pelt glistened, and his black shamrock shaped black spot on his back stood out in the light. "Hey honey." Shamrockleaf said to his daughter Rainbowpaw, before seeing Sand. He gave her a quick lick on the cheek, knowing she hated him doing that. But wasn't it the parents job to embarrass there children? He chuckled, his deep green eyes twinkling with delight. "What are you doing out her- Oh, who are you young one?" The compassionate warrior mewed, noticing the mute cat. Shamrockleaf was a sucker for younger cats, especially since he had his own. No way would he chase a young cat off the territory, when they obviously didn't have a home. "Whats your name? I'm Shamrockleaf."

Because he couldn't talk, Sand's other senses were sharper then the average. His senses told him of the other cat's presence even before he made the bushes russle. His sandy, spotted pelt ruffled slightly as he ducked his head from watching the two cats. He had always tried to stay out of moments like that, it made him feel strange. Looking back up, deep amber eyes curious again. He shook his head, touching the tip of his tail to his mouth. It was something familiar to him, repeating the gesture didn't bother him. Catching the older cat, Shamrockleaf's, eye, he repeated the gesture he had just shown Rainbowpaw. He cocked his head to the side again, waiting to see if he would be understood.

Rainbowpaw smiled. "I'm Rainbowpaw." she replied, glad she was understanding.
"Oh hey dad." she sighed. He was still protective if her. "This is Sand. I think he wants to join the Clan." she explained, looking at Sand questioningly. "You do, right?"

Shamrockleaf smiled warmly at the new cat. "Hello." The kind hearted tom mewed again, deep green orbs twinkling with delight. As Sand touched his mouth to his tail, he cocked his head with a puzzled face. "You-you have a sore throat, young one?" He asked, but wasn't impressed by his answer. That wasn't it. Just then his eyes opened wide, "Oh, you- your a mute?" Shamrockleaf exclaimed, and grinned again. He always thought that all kits were equal, never treating the blind of deaf in the clan different then his own. "Nice to meet you, Sand." He nodded at Rainbowpaw, and looked back at the younger tom. Other cats might of felt bad for the younger cat, but Shamrockleaf didn't. He never met a mute, but felt that they were like everyone else, same intelligence and with a personality. Just not able to speak how he felt in words, but in a different way. "If you would like to join Duskclan, you are very welcome too! My daughter and I will bring you to our leader, that is if you want to come."

Looking back over to Rainbowpaw, he dipped his head, saying hello to her. As she told the one called Shamrockleaf, her dad?, that he might want to join Duskclan, he grinned and nodded. His eyes scanned over the small clearing, taking in all the scents of his new home. He had did what they others couldn't, they had all perished on the quest, but he had made it. They had all said he wouldn't, him being mute, but look at this! Excitment glowed in his amber orbs as he glanced back to the other cats.

"Alright! I'm glad your coming back to camp with us. I'm sure you will be accepted." The tom purred, starting to like Sand more then he did, which was alot, considering he loved all younger cats. Shamrockleaf beckoned his daughter and the new cat with his tail, as he padded toward the Duskclan camp. "So, where did you come from?" The fatherly warrior asked, as if he wasn't a mute at all.

Sandpaw grinned at the older cat, liking him for some reason. Quickly, he followed the elder cat, then stopped as heard the question. For a couple moments, he thought about how to reply. In the end, he shrugged, before seeing the strech of pure dirt. Darting over, he was very fast, he began to scratch the surface. He had been taught to write by some cats he had lived with once, but he didn't know if they would be able to understand it. If not, at least they weren't treating him like he was weak. One thing you must remeber, was that although it didn't show, Sandpaw had a temper. He hated when others treated him like he was weak. He would lash out if the pushed him too far without a second thought. For now though, he was in a good mood.
I come from a place far, far away from here. I don't know what it was called, only that it is many moons away from here. A large group we started out as, but we all went our own paths. I'm the only one who got where we were all going to go, here.[/size]
Nodding, Snadpaw looked over at the other cats, and sat down, spotted tail curled around his feet.

Rainbowpaw nodded, then read the words. She understood, thankfully. "Hmmm... how interesting. Do you have any brothers or sisters?" she asked.

A sad glint came into Sandpaw's eyes. Sadly, he shook his head, drawing a claw against his throat. Once he had brothers and sisters, but life had not been kind for them. He was the last in the line he had come from, everyone else was gone. It made him sad just to think about it. His tail drooped, and the general bubbliness that he had a little whole ago was gone.

Rainbowpaw frowned with him. She nudged his shoulder with her head. "You can meet my sisters. You can have them." she smiled. "They're SOOO annoying."
